Inventory of habits

An audit of your habits needs to take place so you are conscious of whether your attitude and/or actions need refinement. Think about your habits. Do your habits align with your current goals? Which ones glorify God? Which ones glorify yourself? For example, exercise may be a habit, such as jogging 3 miles a day - 5 days a week. Doing this shows respect for your God-given body and it also keeps you happy because you stay in shape. But if you take it to an extreme and it becomes an obsession, you’ll find yourself spending more and more time jogging so that half your days and all week is consumed with that one activity at the expense of other priorities. This is an example of a healthy habit becoming an obsession, a hyper-focused activity which eventually hurts your overall well-being as it leads to an imbalance of priorities resulting in unmet responsibilities and commitments.

Routine Habits

List the 7 things you do without thinking (neither good nor bad); part of a routine like working out or watching the news each morning. It could be things you do without thinking like tying your shoes or thinking about your to-do list.

Then list things you do out of habit that eases your anxiety or has the effect (illusion) of fulfilling some need that isn’t God honoring.
