The process of healthy change starts when, after considering your options, you implement decisions consistent with your values and priorities. Prepare your mind to act:

1.  Define the problem using the perspectives of all              parties involved. Remain optimistic.

2. Generate alternatives using creative solutions within      the boundaries of standards.

3. Evaluate and select alternatives using value-based        decision making.

4. Implement a timely solution(s), if determined a                response is appropriate and logical (as opposed            problems that arise because of bruised egos).

5. Monitor results and be ready to implement the next        alternative, if necessary.

See decision flow chart for a visual example of the process.

1.  Clearly detail out the decision that needs to be                  made and write a summary statement of the desired          outcome.

2. Identify the values involved in reaching the outcome.

  • Do they align with yours? Do you have to negotiate or walk away amiably and discuss it at a later date to preserve the relationship?

3.  Assess the importance of the decision. Does it really         matter?

  • Is it a want or a need? Can it wait for a more opportune time?

4.  Identify your priorities and where this decision fits into       your priorities list.

  • Is it worth doing?

5.  Identify other ways/options that can reach the goal.

6.  Ensure your judgement is grounded in Christ.                     Gather evidence rather than opinions.

7.  Choose a decision, implement it and, if it appears to           be the wrong decision, implement your next                       alternative.

Use the space below to write a goal for a decision you are thinking about

Write out the problem clearly and try to summarize it using one sentence; identify the root problem minus the drama that may have erupted. Then follow the problem-solving and decision-making steps.
