Action Steps Towards a Vision of Lasting Peace (Hebrews 12:1)
Maintain good habits; stay focused and AVOID short term gratification. Allow the security and peace you have in Christ to motivate you to sustain you as you work at obtaining your new normal lifestyle.
Use the following summary as a checklist to evaluate if you are "Actively Resting in Christ".
1. Pray and read the Bible daily. Devote the early morning hours to prayer and feeding on the Word.
2. Adjust your attitude to be consistent with your vision. Remember who and whose you are.
-
Find and unfold Godly wisdom from His Word. Be hopeful about the change required to reach your new normal.
-
Keep your vision and mission statement for your new normal top of mind and align your behavior with your vision. Put first things first!
-
Be intentionally proactive and optimistic. Be be on the offense, not reactive and defensive. Don’t get easily offended by your neighbor’s attitude or actions. (You can’t control their A, B, C’s.)
-
Don’t be too proud to ask for what you need from God, other people or social agencies/government programs.
3. Incorporate new Godly standards into your behavior and practice new habits (in both thinking and doing) so this new normal lifestyle becomes a habit.
4. Monitor your plan by periodically comparing “what is” to where you are going (the vision and mission statements) and determine the gap, then go back to the Word to find advice for filling in the gap.
5. When the details of the vision gets clouded by obstacles, re-read the Word with a renewed focus:
-
Look expectantly for Biblical answers to questions that are on your mind.
-
Remind yourself of God’s promises. Identify whether they are conditional or unconditional to determine whether grateful obedient works/action is necessary on your part.
-
Study the personal examples of faith in action in Hebrews 11. Then go back to the appropriate books of the Bible to read their stories and find inspiration to persist.
-
Use the energy that performance tension creates and channel it into your mission.
6. Acknowledge your emotions but let your RENEWED MIND rule!
-
Align your thoughts with the Word, not the world.
-
Allow your mind to imagine what is possible from God’s perspective.
-
Set goals accordingly.
7. Live in the present and make daily decisions with integrity to your future vision. If you find you made a decision that is not achieving the desired results, STOP and implement a different option. Change your course; do not give up on the goal.
a. Exchange understanding with people who share Christ as the backbone of their world view.
-
Listen. Don’t rule people out who God may have placed before you that He wants to use as an answer to your prayer/inquiry. Test their advice against what the Word of God teaches.
-
Pray and then be on the look-out for revelation from God.
-
Be discerning; not just about advice but also about timing. Not everything needs to be completed NOW.
b. Be persistent to your original vision despite roadblocks.
-
Encourage yourself in the Lord:
i. Praise and be grateful to the Lord as you persist.
ii. Remember His mercies never fail a trusting heart (as demonstrated by hope and faith inspired A, B, C’s).
c. Live your life with A, B, C’s that shinE s evidence of Christ in you!
8. Act on what you know to be the next right step and then wait, with confidence, on the Lord to reveal your next decision/action step. Let time unfold your action steps. Prove God by stepping out in faith. Be and remain “in Christ”.
9. Recognize season changes; set a new mission with accompanying goals and check for consistency to your overall vision.
Use trust in God to rise to and overcome the challenges of living in a secular world!
